Welwyn Garden City is the second garden city in the UK. It has good transports links being 30 minutes from the Capital city. Sir Ebenezer Howard founded Welwyn Garden City in the 1920s. He wanted to establish Welwyn Garden City as a town with its own public services, good housing with gardens, shopping amenities, and places for businesses to thrive. A place to enjoy living and working, with easy access to the countryside and open spaces. Welwyn Garden City was designated a new town in 1948, a low-density development surrounded by agricultural land. Welwyn Garden City has excellent facilities including the 126-acre Stanborough Park, home to boating and sailing lakes and an open-air swimming pool.
The Gosling Sports Park is a superb venue for outdoor sports including tennis, bowls, a ski slope and a golf driving range. The Campus West Entertainment Centre near the town centre has a theatre, roller skating rink, library, and serves as a lively social hub.
